SEO For Ecommerce And DTC Brands
Grow revenue from organic search, including the free product listings Google shows alongside the results.
From £150 a month + VAT
An online shop competes for space with marketplaces, Shopping results and AI summaries as well as other shops. The brands that do well treat product data as seriously as copy: accurate structured data, a clean Merchant Center feed and category pages that answer what buyers compare. Ecommerce brand SEO is the mix of that technical discipline and genuinely useful category content.
Free listings and product data
Google shows products from Merchant Center in free listings across the Shopping tab and other surfaces, separately from paid Shopping ads. On the site itself, merchant listing structured data can carry price, availability, shipping and return policy details into the results. Both depend on accurate, consistent product data, and errors in either quietly cost visibility.
Filters, variants and stock
Filters for size, colour and price can create huge numbers of near-duplicate URLs. Google's own documentation on faceted navigation covers why that wastes crawling and how to control it. Variants, out-of-stock products and discontinued lines all need deliberate handling so authority is not thrown away each time the range changes.
Reviews matter for both rankings and conversion. Since April 2025 the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act bans fake reviews and concealed incentivised reviews, so a review programme has to be clean.
You probably need this if
- Marketplaces and bigger retailers outrank you for your own product types
- Search Console shows large numbers of crawled or indexed filter URLs
- Products are missing from free listings, or show the wrong price or stock
- Category pages are a product grid with no useful content
What you get
- Category architecture and keyword mapping
- Faceted navigation and variant handling plan
- Merchant listing structured data and Merchant Center feed checks
- Category and buying guide content that answers comparison questions
- Out-of-stock and discontinued product rules
- Revenue reporting from organic search and free listings
How we approach it

Fix product data
Structured data and feed accuracy for price, stock, shipping and returns.
-
Strengthen categories
Category pages that help buyers choose, not just a grid of products.
-
Protect authority
Clear rules for variants, stock-outs and range changes so rankings are not lost each season.
SEO for Ecommerce Brands: common questions
Are Google's free product listings part of SEO?
They sit between SEO and paid search. They are free, come from your Merchant Center feed and appear in the Shopping tab and other surfaces. We treat them as part of organic visibility because the work is product data, not bidding.
Should out-of-stock products be removed?
Not by default. A temporarily out-of-stock product should usually stay live with the correct availability. A permanently discontinued one should redirect to the closest alternative or category if there is a genuine match.
Do filter pages hurt SEO?
Uncontrolled ones can, by creating large numbers of near-duplicate URLs. A few filter combinations with real search demand deserve indexable pages; the rest should be kept out of the crawl.
How much does ecommerce SEO cost?
Our SEO starts from £150 a month + VAT. Larger catalogues and replatforming projects need more, which we price after a review.
